Disc Golf
Miss Summerfield and Mr Luffman took 10 Year 4 and 5 pupils to Plympton Academy for an afternoon in the sun to compete in a disc golf tournament. The children had a quick training session before heading out to the 9 hole course. The children’s accuracy improved with every hole that they completed. The team came 11th out of the 20 schools that competed throughout the day. Both adults participated in the adult’s competition; Mr Luffman came a respectable 10th out of 20 with 35 points, and Miss Summerfield came 8th with 34 points. Well done to all who competed!
Brickfields
What a fantastic day we had at Brickfields! The morning involved the children competing in the 60m and 90m sprints. From this 5 of our children reached the finals. Throughout the day, we saw some fantastic efforts from the children in the field events, where they competed in the vortex and long jump competitions. In the afternoon, the Year 5/6 girls won their initial relay race getting them through to the final round, where they came 3rd overall. Congratulations to our two gold medallists in the 60m boys sprint and in the 90m boys sprint. Every child that attended the event showed great team spirit by supporting each other throughout the day, in rain or shine! The juniors did Thornbury incredibly proud with both their efforts and behaviour on the day. Well done all!
School's Challenge and Plymouth Half Marathon
On Sunday 19th May, Mr Abraham, Miss Summerfield, Mr Line, Miss Dymond and Mrs Coppola took 21 Year 6 pupils to Plymouth Hoe to complete their final mile of the 'School's Challenge Half Marathon Event'. Previous to this, the children had attended the School's Challenge club back at Thornbury Primary School, where they ran 12 miles over 10 weeks. All 21 children completed the race with fantastic determination, and received a well-deserved Half Marathon medal and goody bag at the end of the event. A huge well done to Harry Telford who finished in 4th place overall, competing against 3000 children that attended the event from across Plymouth. All of the pupils were a credit to the school, and behaved immaculately on the day, a huge congratulations to all who took part!
Year 2 Multi-Skills Event March 2019
Year 2 put in an outstanding performance at the Year 2 Multi Skills event. They competed in a range of running, jumping and throwing activities against 5 other schools. Despite their best efforts, they came 5th out of the 6 schools. One of our boys even took home a medal for the overall highest boys score in the bean bag throw. Well done team!
