Thornbury Bulletin Friday 11.09.20
Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you for your amazing support and cooperation so far – we successfully got through the first week of the ‘new normal’, our attendance was amazing, and the children are in, learning and happy.
Very well done to new Foundation who started their visits this week, and have made a super start.
Thank you for responding to my email on Monday evening, as mornings particularly have been going very smoothly and everyone has tried hard to follow the Expectations Guidance.
We are making some revisions to our homework arrangements, and homework will not be set for a couple of weeks. We will be contacting you about the details going forward from then.
As I have said before, we have to learn as we go, and make modifications where we can to keep things running smoothly - see next page for changes about school day timings/ face coverings etc.
You will also be aware that case numbers are rising across the country, and although as yet there is no sign of a lockdown locally or nationally, we do want to keep things as safe as we can in school. We are currently starting to restrict visitors to the school building to essential only, and getting back into the mindset of the approach we all had in the Spring term. If the Covid-19 situation worsens we will, of course, inform you of other measures which we might have to put in place.
I hope that everyone will have a good weekend and thank you again for your support.
There is much frustration around current testing capacity, and we also have a cold doing the rounds. We are following the NHS guidance which is that those with the following symptoms however mild need to isolate (along with their household) and should get tested:
A new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual) and/ or
Temperature, and/ or
Loss of taste or smell
Try to get a test through 111 or the Gov.uk website (which you can also access through the NHS website). We have been advised by Public Health that due to the high demand, as schools and universities return, there is limited availability and you might have to keep trying over the day. Apparently, they release some in the evening for the next day, and in the morning for that afternoon. If you are struggling, get in touch with us and we will see what we can do.
Could you also forward any test result to us, for our records.
Safety Changes and Reminders - IMPORTANT
End of Day is when we are finding the site and socially distancing more difficult to manage. We have decided to change the existing end/ beginning populations and times as follows:
Children with surnames A to J to arrive at 8.40-8.45, (To become Population A) and to leave at 2.55
Children with surnames K to Z to arrive between 8.45-8.55 (To become Population B) and to leave at 3.10.
If siblings have different surnames, please go by the eldest child’s surname.
If this is going to be tricky for you, please could you get in touch?
One adult/ teenager (16 or over) collecting only per family on site
Could all over 11s please now wear a face covering when on site
The top gate is inwards only.
Speech and Language children who come by taxi, times will be as normal.
It is imperative that no parent/ family arrives early, either at the beginning or end of the day, and we ask all parents to leave promptly, without waiting for/ speaking with friends on site.
Please also spread out as much as you possibly can, or arrange to meet your child/ (and send them in) from a little further away, as long as we can catch sight of you!
Please also be aware of leaving lots of space around you, so that parents leaving can easily get to the gate.
Please do not cross the marked areas which are for staff and pupils only. Please socially distance at all times.
Could I also remind everyone that bikes and scooters should not be ridden on site, and that dogs are also not allowed.
If you have any messages please phone the office or email the admin address, and someone will get back to you
Please do not come round to the school office (except to collect pre ordered uniform) – please could you make an appointment first so this can be managed safely.
Although the Government have now changed to the Rule of 6, we are working very hard to keep year group and/or class bubbles inside school apart from each other –this might be something you wish to take this into consideration if socialising outside school.
Holidays and Quarantine
You will be aware that quarantine arrangements are changing all the time. Holidays will not be authorised. If you do go on holiday, or have returned from holiday, before your child arrives, we would like to see your official documentation which shows where you have been and the date of arrival back in the UK. This is to protect all our community. Thank you.
