Under The Sea

Our Literacy this week has been all about going under the sea. We started our journey with a trip in a submarine spotting lots of different sea creatures. We also learnt some new vocabulary! Test our sea creature knowledge by asking us for definitions of a shark, sea urchin, lobster, seaweed, seabed  and an anemone.

Non-Fiction Leaflets

As you are aware from our half term homework we are studying Animals as our topic. This also links to our literacy unit as we are creating non-fiction leaflets about a sea creature of the children's choice. This week we have been learning all about non-fiction and fiction books We now know that fiction books are stories that are made up of stories and are not true. They have drawings and cartoons in. Non-fiction books are about real things and are factual, it is the truth. They have photographs and diagrams in.

In Literacy, Year 1 have been looking at green words (nouns) and blue words (adjectives). We read the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk, and tried to identify the nouns, which we know are things or 'whats'. We found words such as beanstalk and castle, and used blue adjectives to describe the noun. We wrote some really detailed sentences such as : The green beanstalk is tall and twisty.
